Miami Dolphins Practice Updates

Following Thursday night’s big road win at the Carolina Panthers, the Miami Dolphins are now back at .500 and looking to make a push towards a second straight playoff berth. The Dolphins are two games behind the New England Patriots and have a nationally televised home game still to play against the division leaders, so an AFC East title is not out of the question. However, a Wild Card spot might be more realistic. Still with the injuries that have plagued the Miami Dolphins recently, this will be a challenge: one that Tony Sparano appears to have his players ready to face.

Ricky Williams stole the show on Thursday night with 120+ yards on the ground in his first game as feature back in several years, which is a very encouraging prospect with Ronnie Brown done for the season. The offensive line suffered some injuries this week though, and it is still somewhat unclear how serious they are moving forward. There has been essentially no indication as to the severity of Jake Grove’s ankle sprain, but the Sun Sentinel reported that the Miami Dolphins brought some offensive linemen in for tryouts on Monday, indicating it could be bad. Nate Garner, however, appears to be fine while Justin Smiley, despite playing against the Carolina Panthers, has not been cleared for contact yet this week.

On the defensive side of the ball Jason Ferguson is now done for the year with a quadriceps injury. While this is a tough blow for the 2009 Miami Dolphins, initial speculation was that this was a knee injury, which could have ended the 34 year olds career. A quadriceps injury will be much less daunting to return from.
