Miami Football BlogWednesday, November 25, 2009Parcells in the Cleveland Browns Office: Could it Happen?A report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, that was also blogged about by Sun Sentinel Miami Dolphins blogger Mike Berardino, threw out the idea that perhaps Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner would be looking to Bill Parcells to right his faulty franchise much like the Big Tuna did down here for the Miami Dolphins. It is all speculation at this point based on an opt out clause in Parcells contract and the awful disarray the Cleveland Browns are in, but is this something Miami Dolphins fans should be worried about? While the opinion of the Miami Dolphins Tickets blog holds that this is very unlikely to happen, there is a potential reason for concern. Bill Parcells has long been one of the most respected coaches in the NFL, and is undoubtedly a winner, but he isn’t really a big winner anymore, nor has he been for some time. It seems that his skills these days are best used in quickly turning around poor franchises, like he has done with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and now our Miami Dolphins in the past 15-20 years. While he returned each of these teams to respectability, he hasn’t taken the next step with any team in years. He did take the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in 1996, and the New York Jets to the AFC Championship game where they lost to a great Denver Broncos team in 1998, but no Parcells team has won a playoff game since. It is not outside the realm of possibility that the Tuna knows this and wants to return to his comfort zone of turning bad teams around, rather than trying to make good teams great as he did with the New York Giants in the late 80s and early 90s. He did essentially this when he left the Dallas Cowboys and took over the Miami Dolphins. On the flipside, though, it is also very possible Parcells sees a challenge to overcome in his teams’ recent poor playoff performances and has found the place he wants to do it in. Perhaps he has the hunger to return to playoff glory and doesn’t want to start over from scratch with a team in Cleveland that is almost completely devoid of talent. He has a much better shot of winning another Super Bowl sooner in Miami than he would in Cleveland. As of right now this is not something any Miami Dolphins fan should lose sleep over. It does not seem likely that even if Parcells leaves, Tony Sparano or Jeff Ireland would have any reason to follow, so the Miami Dolphins Tickets Blog recommends you don’t worry. Previous Posts
