Dolphins vs. Jaguars Game Recap
Just one week after sloshing their way through a rain-soaked game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their preseason opener, the Miami Dolphins traveled north to Jacksonville and were met yet again by rain and thunderstorms, although this time the inclement weather delayed the start of the contest for nearly two hours. Luckily for Miami, that wasn’t the only thing this game had in common with their first, as they walked out of Jacksonville with another win under their belt, a 27-26 victory, their ninth straight preseason victory.
Going into Saturday’s game against the Jags, Head Coach Tony Sparano was hoping to see a lot more of his starting unit on the field, and furthermore, was hoping to see more production – especially for the offensive unit that failed to get much of anything going against Tampa Bay. He got just what he was wishing for, as the Dolphins moved the ball, scoring three TDs in the second quarter alone. Chad Henne was an integral part of that transformation, completing 11-of-14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, both to Anthony Fasano. Henne gave way late in the first half to Chad Pennington, who saw his first action of the preseason and made the most of his one series, going 3-for-4 with 54 yards and one touchdown, a 10-yard strike to Ronnie Brown that put the Dolphins up 24-12 heading into the locker room.
Henne wasn’t the only impressive player on the field for the victorious Dolphins, however. Receiver Brandon Marshall finally did what showed the nation of Fins fans what he is capable of, logging four receptions for 65 yards, including one spectacular grab, a lob pass from Pennington late in the first half that put Miami in Jacksonville territory and set up the Brown TD. Marshall was also instrumental in the first Fasano score as well, as he put a monster block on two Jags defenders, clearing the right side of the field for his teammate’s 55-yard touchdown.
Be sure to stay tuned throughout the week, as the Fins are halfway through their preseason slate and will pick back up again this Friday night with a home game against the Atlanta Falcons at Sun Life Stadium.
