Miami Dolphins Draft Day Primer

It's been a while since the Miami Dolphins Tickets Blog checked in with our loyal readers, but it has been an action packed offseason thus far for the Miami Dolphins. Between the acquistions of Brandon Marshall, Karlos Dansy and Richie Incognito, to the The NFL Draft has itself a new format for 2010, and the first round of the NFL's 75th annual rookie selection party will occur tonight in primetime! The Miami Dolphins currently own the 12th overall pick in the first round, as well as 9th pick in the third round (73rd overall) and 8 picks in the 4th through 7th rounds on Saturday. Only the first round of the NFL Draft will take place tonight and speculation is running rampant about what the Miami Dolphins will do with the number 12 pick. Given the departures of Jason Taylor and Joey Porter as well as the inconsistent play of Cameron Wake, an impact pass rusher is a pressing area of need for the Miami Dolphins. While there are some projected high picks at DE/OLB, Jason Pierre-Paul from University of South Florida and Derrick Morgan from Georgia Tech are viewed as high potential players, none are considered surefire home run picks.

One option the Miami Dolphins have been seriously considering is trading out of the 12th pick in an attempt to recoup one or two of the picks that were traded for stud WR Brandon Marshall. The most widely rumored trading partner is the Philadelphia Eagles, who hold the 24th pick as well as two second rounders and two third rounders. The Eagles are said to covet Morgan, while the Miami Dolphins could still address their pass rushing needs at 24 if Texas LB Sergio Kindle, TCU LB Jerry Hughes, or Michigan LB Brandon Graham are still available.

One other attractive option if the Phins stay put at 12 would be to draft Tennessee NT Dan Williams to replace the suspended and aging Jason Ferguson, who was in the NFL when Don Shula was still coaching.Williams is the only legit nose tackle at the top of this draft, and given the 3-4 defense the Miami Dolphins run, finding Ferguson's future replacement should be a priority. Make sure to tune in to the NFL Network tonight and see the Miami Dolphins future unfold!
