Miami Dolphins Tickets 2010 Draft Recap
After months of speculation, the Miami Dolphins finally answered some questions by trading the 12th pick down to the San Diego Chargers for the 28th pick in the first round and the 8th pick in the second round. All in all, the Miami Dolphins addressed a number of needs with solid players, despite not grabbing any headlines with their selection.
First round choice Jared Odrick brings instant depth to a defensive line that has been marred by injuries, suspension, age and inconsistency. Jason Ferguson certainly is not getting any younger, and will also miss the first 8 games of the season while suspended. Odrick, although lacking prototypical size for a nose tackle, will almost certainly be able to help Paul Soliai on the inside.
We don’t know yet if second round selection Koa Misi will be a hall of famer, but he will hopefully help to replace the losses of Jason Taylor and Joey Porter at outside linebacker. He is already beginning to replace Porter, as Misi will wear Porter’s number 55, but will play more the role Taylor did in the defense. An edge pass rusher and effective run stopper for a 3-4 outside linebacker, Misi will look to get on the field as soon as possible, but likely will serve a year on special teams before cracking the starting lineup.
Safety Reshad Jones from Georgia was an interesting 5th round pick for the Miami Dolphins as he steps into a secondary lacking depth and talent at the safety positions. With Gibril Wilson gone, and Ryan Clark resigning with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Miami Dolphins never made any moves at safety this offseason, leaving only Tyrone Culver, Yeremiah Bell, Chris Clemons and Nate Ness on the roster, hardly a group of seasoned veterans or Pro Bowlers. The door could be open for Jones to make an impact during his rookie year.
With the season still a couple months away, there is still much anticipation to build before the Miami Dolphins take the field in 2010. Don’t miss the action next season!
