Offense Preview: Receivers and Running Backs
Things sure are sunny in South Beach these days. The Florida heat may be stifling this time of the year, but with the Miami Dolphins knee deep in yet another training camp, in terms of the forecast, it’s blue skies all around.
Of course, Miami Dolphins fans sure are hoping the storm clouds of the past have been swept away into the crystal-clear Atlantic. Gone are the days of 2007 when the Fins finished a disastrous 1-15. Long gone are the days when Ricky Williams retired early because of drug abuse (OK, Williams is still around, but for any of you who saw the documentary “Run Ricky Run,” you know the past is behind him). And here today is the omnipresent optimism that surrounds the 2010 version of the Miami Dolphins, and much of that optimism rests of the Dolphins’ offense, which has solidified itself as one of the best in the NFL.
We touched on Chad Henne and the quarterback position awhile ago, so we won’t waste too much time on that. In fact, besides the fact that Henne will be entering his second season at the helm of the team, many of the reasons to be optimistic about his success lie on those around him. Much has been documented about Henne’s new partner in crime, Brandon Marshall, who will most likely become Henne’s favorite target in 2010. But with four other receiver spots open, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess (Henne’s main targets in 2009) and Greg Camarillo are among those who will be competing for time opposite Marshall in the coming weeks.
The running back position is also a reason to get fans juiced for the season, as Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, Lex Hilliard and fullback Lousaka Polite are hoping to mirror their success from last season, when they rushed for 22 TDs (tied with the Ravens for tops in the league) and compiled 2,231 yards (one of only 10 teams to pass 2,000 rushing yards). Brown, however, is coming back from an injury this season and needs to prove he can stay on the field for an extended period of time in order for the rushing attack to be successful once again.
The Miami Dolphins will showcase their world-class receivers and running backs to the world this Saturday for the first time, so you only have a few more days to wait to see them live in action.
