Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets Review

The Miami Dolphins just can’t get any luck against the New York Jets.

In their first game of the season between the two teams, the Jets got the best of Miami in London, England (27-14), marking Miami’s third loss in a row. After the loss, the Fins fired then-Head Coach Joe Philbin, making way for Interim Head Coach Dan Campbell.

Fast forward eight weeks, and it was the same story again for Miami against their division rival, as they fell, 20-38, to New York in East Rutherford, NJ.

Ryan Fitzpatrick had his way against the Dolphins on this particular Sunday, throwing 277 yards and a whopping four touchdowns for a QB rating of 118.9. Former Dolphin Brandon Marshall was the beneficiary of many of those passes, as he had nine receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

Miami struggled early and was never able to recover. They went into halftime down 0-14 after gaining only 81 yards, including just eight on the ground, in the entire first half. For the game, the Fins garnered only 12 total rushing yards, the lowest total of a New York opponent all season.

The Dolphins finally cracked the scoreboard late in the third quarter when Ryan Tannehill connected with Jarvis Landry for a five-yard TD. Landry was the line bright spot for Miami, as he tallied 165 yards through the air on 13 receptions, both career-highs for the second-year player.

Although Landry’s score narrowed the Jets’ lead to 14 (7-21), New York scored two consecutive touchdowns to start the fourth quarter, pushing their lead to 35-7 and putting Miami out of contention.

Miami also lost four players due to injury in the game - center Mike Pouncey (right foot), receiver Rishard Matthews (ribs/chest) and defensive tackles Earl Mitchell (calf) and C.J. Mosley (calf).

The good news for Miami is that the team still has four home games remaining this season, so there is still plenty of time to see your favorite NFL team play in person in South Florida.
