Dolphins Down Bills

Just a few days ago, we wrote about how running back Reggie Bush had three games remaining in the 2011 NFL season to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark on the ground for the first time in his career. The funny thing is, we didn’t expect him to try to make up all 230 yards in one game.

Bush did his best Emmitt Smith impersonation on Sunday, rushing for 203 yards while single-handedly running over the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. to give Interim Head Coach Todd Bowles his first win at the helm of the team. For the season, Bush now has 973 yards; to put that number in perspective, during his first five seasons in New Orleans, Bush tallied 2,090 total rushing yards.

Bush also accounted for six of the Dolphins’ 30 points, scoring on a 76-yard run with 5:41 remaining in the game, a TD that ultimately swung the game in Miami’s direction. When Bush scored the touchdown, his sixth of the season, he put Miami up by 17 points, 30-13. The Bills fired back, however, ultimately closing the game to one TD shortly thereafter. Derek Hagan scored on a two-yard pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick at the 2:27 mark and Dave Rayner hit a field goal with 1:22 left in the game, which provided the game’s final score, 30-23.

Buffalo, who has now lost seven in a row, tacked on the game’s first TD in the first quarter after they recovered a Bush fumble, but from there it was pretty much all Miami. Quarterback Matt Moore, who showed no ill effects from his hit that took him out of last Sunday’s contest, connected with Anthony Fasano on the game’s first play in the second quarter to put the Fins on the board. A few penalties on the home team helped get Miami into the red zone on their next possession, and even though Moore failed to connect with Brandon Marshall several times in the period, the Dolphins still capitalized with a field goal to push the lead to six, 13-7.

Although Moore and Marshall looked out of sync in the first half, they connected on Miami’s opening drive of the second half with a 63-yard TD pass, which is Marshall’s longest play of the season. Another Dan Carpenter FG tacked on three more points before Bush provided the final nail in the coffin for the home team.
