Fins Fall to Eagles
The Miami Dolphins were dealt with injuries all day long and made one too many miscues, falling for only the second time in their last six games, 26-10, to the Philadelphia Eagles at Sun life Stadium on Sunday. The game started off on the right foot, but that ended up being just about the only positive that came from this game at the end of the day. On the Eagles’ opening drive, the Dolphins D forced a punt, which was blocked by Miami and recovered at the Philadelphia 15-yard line. From there, it took Matt Moore only two plays to connect on a 16-yard TD with Brandon Marshall to give the Fins the early 7-0 lead.
Philadelphia tied the game early in the second quarter after Miami attempted a 55-yard field goal that was no good. Eagles QB Michael Vick and the Eagles took advantage of the short field, tying the game at 7-7 just six plays and 3:00 later.
From there, the hits just kept on coming. Miami’s next drive resulted in Moore throwing an interception, which set up another quick Philly touchdown. After another Eagles field goal, Moore was sacked at the Philly 29-yard line, resulting in a fumble and yet another quick Eagles score. In total, the visiting team scored an astounding 24 points in just under nine minutes of play in that second period to blow open the game.
But believe it or not, the second quarter turnaround wasn’t the big story of the game. The bigger story in south Florida turned out to be the injury bug, which hit Miami hard. Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long was taken out of the game in the first quarter, and the Fins’ offensive line seemingly never recovered, giving up nine sacks on the day, which tied a franchise record. Moore also had to be taken out of the game late in the third quarter due to a blow to the head after being hit from behind while throwing an incomplete pass. JP Losman finished the game for Miami, going 6-for-10 for 60 yards.
We’ll dissect this game more as the week progresses, but for now, it’s important to note that Miami Dolphins fans only have three more weeks to witness the Fins in action before the end of the 2011 NFL regular season.
