Dolphins Defeat Seahawks

For much of the game’s first three quarters, it was looking like much of the same from the Miami Dolphins offense. With 45 minutes off the game clock, the Fins had only managed to put up seven points, which came on a 21-yard Reggie Bush run just past the mid-point of the second quarter (welcome back, Reggie Bush).

In fact, Miami’s first four possessions looked like this: punt, intercepted pass, punt, punt. Fortunately for the home team, however, Seattle also punted on their first five possessions, the first four of which were three-and-outs.

The Dolphins made everyone forget about their delayed start, however, in the game’s final period. Miami scored 17 points in a matter of just 8:08, including a game-winning, 65-yard drive that ended with Dan Carpenter hitting a field goal on his 27th birthday to give the Fins the 24-21 victory at Sun Life Stadium Sunday. The victory ended the Dolphins’ three-game losing skid, and also marked the first time since 2005 that Miami has overcome a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill orchestrated the comeback victory, going an impressive 7-for-8 through the air during that 8:08 and accounting for plays of 19 and 39 yards during the Fins’ first TD drive of the fourth, 18 and 29 yards during the game-tying drive with 5:13 left to play, and then threw 19, 25 and 7-yard passes during the final possession to go along with a 15-yard scramble that set up the game-winning 43-yard field goal.

Tannehill wasn’t the only Fin that was impressive on Sunday, however. As we mentioned earlier, Reggie Bush emerged from his cocoon, carrying the ball 14 times for 87 yards and the aforementioned touchdown, while Daniel Thomas also scored six points while accounting for 60 yards on nine carries. On the receiving side of the ball, Davone Bess had a huge day with 129 yards on seven receptions, including a game-high 39 yard reception in the fourth.

While the comeback win was exhilarating for Miami players and fans alike, the Fins know they have a big showdown ahead of them this week against the New England Patriots.
